SNV Netherlands Development Organisation – the Project Manager of "Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta" (TRVC Project) is thrilled to announce the Result and Prize Award of the 2024 - 2025 Winter - Spring crop season. In this season (Season 2 of TRVC Project), the TRVC Project’s independent Verifier, Regrow Agriculture Inc. (Regrow), calculated and consolidated competition results from each enrolled rice cultivation area of 10 companies, also known as TRVC Competitors, participating in the low-emission high-quality rice production linkages in Dong Thap and An Giang provinces. The efforts of the Competitors and farmers collaborating with them have yielded positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes. By adopting sustainable rice production practices, rice cultivated by farmers in this crop season has achieved approximately 4.3 tCO2e lower emissions compared to conventional farming methods.

In terms of economic efficiency, the average profit margins for farming households were 60.1% in Dong Thap, 57.67% in An Giang, and 63.81% in Kien Giang (before merging). Regarding environmental impact, the total reduction in emissions was 129,254 tons of CO2 equivalent. In terms of social impact, 100% of Competitors have integrated policies and implemented measures to ensure gender equality, disability, and social inclusion within their organizations and across the value chains in the three project provinces. This demonstrates the commitment and leadership of these companies in fostering production linkages with rice-farming households, enabled by the timely coordination and support of the Project Management Units in Dong Thap, An Giang, and Kien Giang (before merging).

In the first year of the Project’s implementation in Dong Thap and An Giang, through two crop seasons, i.e., Summer - Autumn 2024 and Winter - Spring 2024 - 2025, the TRVC Project, in collaboration with 10 Competitors, has implemented sustainable rice production practices aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the Mekong Delta region, conducted in accordance with Decision No. 145/2002/QD-BNN, covering a total area of 40,183.71 hectares. This generated an average profit of 59% for participating farmers and reduced a total of 156,602.44 tCO₂e. These results have been independently verified by Regrow Inc. (USA) following the Tier 3 methodology under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This internationally recognized methodology provides a foundation for potential carbon credit registration for low-emission rice cultivation.

From the perspective of TRVC Competitor, Ms. Trần Ngọc Châu, Deputy Director of Angimex-Kitoku Co., Ltd. (AKJ), shared: “Since joining the TRVC Project, funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), I’ve gained a deeper understanding of low-emission practices and their impact not only on the environment but also on the long-term resilience of the rice value chain. It’s changed the way I lead - now, I see business growth and social, environmental impact as deeply connected.”

Notably, through its participation in the TRVC Project, Angimex-Kitoku Co., Ltd. has become the first agricultural company in Vietnam to receive a Sustainability-Linked Loan (SLL) from MUFG Bank, Ltd. - one of Japan’s leading global financial institutions. This is the first SLL that MUFG has extended to the agricultural sector in Vietnam, and Angimex-Kitoku is likewise the first company in the Vietnamese rice industry to access green finance tied to greenhouse gas (GHG) emission-reduction targets.

Below is a summary table of the results achieved by the 10 Competitors participating in the TRVC Project in the Winter - Spring 2024 - 2025. In August 2025, SNV will award prizes to the 10 eligible companies as listed below.

These results are significant and contribute to the efforts toward transitioning to low-emission rice production systems, supporting the goals of the Program on “Sustainable development of 01 million hectares for specialized farming of rice with high quality and low emission associated with green growth of the Mekong Delta by 2030”, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. Furthermore, the efforts of the companies participating in the TRVC Project also directly contribute to global climate change mitigation and align with key international targets on limiting global warming to 1.5°C and reducing methane emissions by 30% by 2030, as committed by the Government of Vietnam at COP 26.
