TRVC Project’s Competitors mark strategic milestone with Vietnam’s First “Green – Low Emission Rice” Certification

Trang chủ | Blog (ENG) (08/05/2025)

On April 24, 2025, in Can Tho City, eight pioneering enterprises participating in the Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC) Project became the first in Vietnam to be officially awarded the “Vietnam Green – Low Emission Rice” label. This certification, granted by the Vietnam Rice Industry Association (VIETRISA), recognizes rice produced during the Summer–Autumn Season of 2024 using climate-smart and low-emission farming practices.

The certification of these eight enterprises, referred to as “Competitors” in the TRVC Project, follows rigorous, independent verification conducted by Regrow Ag. on the economic, environmental, and social outcomes, including an average reduction of 4.5 tons of CO₂ equivalent per hectare of the first Project’s Season.

This milestone was achieved through the active participation of the eight Competitors, who worked closely with thousands of contracted smallholder rice farmers across Dong Thap, An Giang, and Kien Giang provinces to implement sustainable cultivation techniques.

Speaking at the certification ceremony, Mr. Bui Ba Bong, Chairman of VIETRISA, stated:
“This is a strategic milestone in building Vietnam’s rice brand for premium markets that demand strict carbon standards. The “Vietnam Green – Low Emission Rice” label is not just a commercial trademark but also a commitment to environmental and social responsibility.”

As the TRVC Project concludes its first Season, these achievements not only mark a breakthrough in Vietnam’s transition toward sustainable rice production but also lay a solid foundation for future impact. With growing momentum and building on the lessons and successes of Season 1, the Project is well-positioned to scale up its efforts in the coming Seasons, engaging more enterprises, supporting thousands of additional smallholder farmers, and deepening collaboration with government and market partners.

Congratulations to all eight Competitors, we look forward to future Crop Seasons bringing even greater results!
