Can Tho city, February 28, 2023, the Netherlands Development Organization SNV, in collaboration with the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, co-organized the National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Workshop Project “Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta” (TRVC). The workshop was attended by more than 50 delegates, including representatives of the Netherlands Development Organization SNV in Vietnam; representative of the Donor - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia (DFAT); representatives of central agencies (Department of Crop Production; Department of International Cooperation; National Agriculture Extension Center; National Center for Science and Technology; Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Institute of Agricultural Environment) and local agencies (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development); Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, Sub-Department of Rural Development, Agriculture Extension Centers in Dong Thap, An Giang and Kien Giang provinces); Representatives of outstanding rice enterprises and experts on agriculture, rice and environment.
Under the direction of Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong - Director of the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on the Project "Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta” began with greetings and thanks for the participation of delegates and private entities.

Representative of SNV Project Management Board - Mr. Richard Rastall - SNV Agricultural Sector Leader emphasized:
“The TRVC project plays an important role in making a change in the Vietnamese rice industry, towards the sustainable development of agricultural production in Vietnam. That's because 94% of Vietnam's rice exports come from the Mekong Delta, while this region is subject to many challenges in terms of natural conditions, farming practices, and markets."

Representative of the Donor - the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Mr. James Deane - 2nd Secretary, Australian Embassy in Vietnam, also shared:
“Vietnam has recognized that income-enhancing low-emissions production is the sustainable direction of Vietnamese agriculture, and the TRVC Project is a highlight of the partnership between the Australian Government and the Vietnamese Government, in the field of agricultural development to respond to climate change and apply scientific and technical advances to agricultural production.”

The main content of the Workshop was 4 presentations from the SNV Project Management Board and consulting groups, including:
- TRVC Project's Prize Design; Verify Methods and Contest Rules - presented by Mr. Justin Kosoris, Deloitte Consulting Team Leader, USA

In addition, delegates from the Departments of Agriculture & Rural Development of 3 provinces, representatives of the Research Institute and the Center for Agricultural Extension gave enthusiastic and constructive comments on the expected goals of the Project and the criteria related to the prize. Also in the discussion session, businesses in the Rice Value Chain showed their interest in the Project and the contest. Specifically, businesses have made many questions related to the contest application and selection process of the Project Management Board.

As a result, the Advisory Council of the Workshop received and gave explanations to more than 10 questions/consultations from the parties: experts, local management agencies and representatives of enterprises. Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong - Director of the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, suggested that SNV and the Advisory Board would continue to perfect the criteria and implementation plan of the Project, continue to work closely with localities and enterprises for the most effective implementation of the TRVC project.
