The Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City recently organized a field trip for media agencies nationwide to a number of projects and works that have been and are being supported by the Australian government in the Mekong Delta in response to climate change and economic and social development and emission mitigation. Participating in this event, the Netherlands Development Organization SNV gave a presentation introducing the Project "Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)” funded by the Australian Government, implemented in three provinces of Dong Thap, Kien Giang and An Giang in the period of 2023-2027. Detailed information about the TRVC Project is posted on the Project's official landing page here.

At the briefing session on March 18, 2024 at Can Tho University, the Australian Deputy Consul General in Vietnam - HE. Ciaran Chestnutt, affirmed: "Upgrading relations to the highest level has created conditions for expanding cooperation commitments between the two countries in multiple new fields. In particular, climate change is one of the special priorities in Australian foreign policy, allowing us to build specific programs for the Mekong Delta."

At this event, Ms. Tran Thu Ha – Team Leader of TRVC Project, shared: "The Australian Government has supported Vietnam in piloting and expanding initiatives to develop the rice industry sustainably and reduce greenhouse gases emissions in both the Red River Delta and Mekong Delta regions. The TRVC Project uses a pull mechanism; to create motivation to promote the key role of Enterprises in the rice value chain in building sustainable production and business linkages with small farmers. Monetary prizes and sustainable rice branding support create a catalyst; and is a source of initial support and funding to help create a solid foundation for businesses and farmers to cooperate and bring economic efficiency and higher benefits to all actors in the rice value chain.

On March 21, 2024, the Netherlands Development Organization SNV and the Delegation went on a field trip and discussed with local authorities and farmers who are and will be participating in production linkages with VinaRice - one of the Competitors participating in the TRVC Project in Dong Thap province.

Here, the Australian Government delegation and media units had a field visit and interacted with the company and farmers about the farming process according to the technical proposal that the company registered with the TRVC Project. At the same time, the media group also witnessed a demonstration of using drones to spray organic seed nutrients right on the field. This is one of the forms of farming that helps farmers convert to mechanization and greater efficiency in large-scale rice production.

During the field trip, the Delegation directly discussed with local authorities and small farmers to learn about the economic, social and environmental benefits of participating in rice production linkages with Enterprises in the direction of sustainable rice production; on the foundation that the TRVC project established.
